How to Get the Most Out of Your Invisalign TreatmentJuly 23, 2022 5:10 pm
Are you starting your Invisalign® treatment soon? We’re so excited for you! Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic option that allows you to discreetly straighten your teeth.
Here are our top tips to get the most out of your Invisalign treatment:
- Wear Your Invisalign Aligners at Least 20-22 Hours a Day
- Clean Your Aligners Daily
- Brush & Floss Daily
- Wear Your Retainer Upon Completion
The more you wear your aligners the faster your teeth will move. The aligners are designed to be slightly off from your current tooth positioning so that your teeth will move to fit the aligners. To get your teeth to move properly, you have to be diligent about wearing your aligners almost all day every day. They should only be removed when eating or drinking anything other than water, to brush and floss your teeth, and to clean your aligners.
The mouth can be a breeding ground for bad bacteria. Just like you brush your teeth daily, you need to make sure you are cleaning your aligners every day. If not, germy aligners can increase your risk of bad breath, infection, tooth decay, and gum disease. They can also become discolored. Clean your aligners with lukewarm water and dish soap and use a soft-bristled brush to gently brush them.
During Invisalign treatment, your teeth might feel a little sensitive so you may not be as motivated to brush and floss. However, you have to push through any tooth sensitivity and discomfort to ensure you aren’t letting your oral health fall by the wayside.
After you’ve finished your treatment, keep your final set of aligners so that you can use them as retainers. Your teeth will try to revert back to their original positions if you don’t wear your retainers as often as we direct.
